Alien Invader Awareness Program

Alien invader plants (also known as APIs, or simply as aliens or invaders, exotics weeds or non-native species) are non-indigenous plants introduced intentionally by human activity. This can be intentional, e.g. for use in gardens, or accidentally. AIPs reproduce and proliferate quickly until the point where they dominate local ecosystems. This can cause severe environmental damage because AIPs tend to displace indigenous species.

Every month we select an "Invader of the Month" to raise awareness of the alien invader problem, and we publish flyers with details on each species.
